A curtain box, an overhead grid of light and a hard-edged fascia: production design for Tauren Wells’ live album recording at ACL Live at the Moody Theater, Austin.

(01) challenge: A live album recording in a theater. The stage had to hold the room and hold up on camera, through every look of the night.
(02) approach: Keep the architecture simple and let light carry it: a curtain box, an overhead grid of lights and a hard-edged fascia. Previs rounds in Depence pushed that one frame through warm, red and cold looks before anything was built. Vectorworks drawings, screen and lyric layouts and camera positions took it to the venue.
(03) result: Here Comes the Church — Live, recorded at ACL Live at the Moody Theater. The Render vs. Reality slider shows the Depence previs against the room.
